UFO FACTORY at MOCAD
PRESS RELEASE:
"Canada Project" at UFO Factory at MOCAD is a show within a show – or
an installation within an installation that is itself a
reproduction. As part of the exhibition CONSIDERING DETROIT, we
at TIME STEREO/UFO FACTORY recreated our Detroit/Eastern Market art
gallery/performance space inside the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit
(MOCAD). With a five-inch model as a guide, we replicated the UFO
Factory to scale out of cardboard, wood, tape paint and glue and
scheduled three months of programming.
"Canada Project" at UFO Factory at MoCAD is part of this silver
spectacle. Consisting of reproductions of paintings based on
photographs of models as well as images of the models themselves, the
installation collapses the studio process and presents working methods
and results as equal. Following Time Stereo’s lead, an initial
work is supplanted by generations of copies containing both the echo of
the original and its inevitable distortion.
"Canada Project" is a body of work begun in 2007 that explores the
tradition of landscape painting.
